On a vaguely similar note, I played Rolando/Jaguar to a friend who is
into electronic music, but not recent techno, and he said wow.. Another
remix of Dead Eyes Opened! (a Severed Heads track)

For
yeah this was one of the best nights out and the best music I have heard
for ages! I'm not hugely into housy stuff but it was good he mixed
styles around so such a long set didn't get monotonous. great use of FX,
usually DJs messing with FX annoys me but he did it just so well.
and having a
Australian electronic music collective Clan Analogue's recent
CD compilation Cognition III has quite a few tracks that would
appeal to those who are into the slower berlin/313 kinda techno
sound. has tracks by Jeremy Dower (who has a recent album on
Plug Research), Stalker, 5000 Fingers of Dr T,
I think the laptop/CD thing is just a different way than the vinyl
method.
Both have their pluses and minuses, though there is definately a
nostalgic/stylistic
tradition and huge storehouse of skills for the vinyl-playing DJ in the
dance/electronic music scene.
