I can confirm this bug does not afflict ubuntu only, but it's confirmed for
the linux-kernel (the main one!) too. I've read somewhere that's an awful
problem to debug, since at the time the system freezes there's no place to
store a log, since it's the last action before shutdown: all mounts are

I am having this bug also for long time ,
I now find in Ubuntu 7.04 that I can press *Suspend* and it completly
shuts down .
It does not fully work for me ,I think it should allow for fast recovery
,

i would like to add that it has been fixes for some people, like me. i
had that problem at the beginning of edgy, then it went away (i think
with a acpi update, but i'm not sure), and in feisty everything is
perfect.
