Same problem here with my laptop: Intel Core2 T5600 Mainboard MTC ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 Ubuntu 7.04 The only way to turn off the power is to press and hold the power button. (Same problem with Ubunutu and Kubuntu live CD's) -- Power down after shutdown does not work...
