I've done the test, nothing happened. event_log is empty, no new messages show
up in dmesg.

The Hardy Heron release stalls on my computer. However, the kernel will
load- and won't shut down properly.
Since posting before, I have started using a router rather that a USB
modem, with the result that the computer never shuts down itself, where
before it would occasionally.
