I don't think this is (was?) the same problem. This one was caused by
the installer leaving an /etc/adjtime with "UTC" even if local time was
chosen and/or that resume.sh did not help by appending --localtime or
--utc.

Now looking at your patch in bug #193842 it seems to fix this anyway,
since it calls /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh which I believe adds --utc or
--localtime (instead of the old resume.sh which called /sbin/hwclock

I am able to change brightness via sys I/F. Valid values for brightness are
0,25,50,75 or 100. Any other value sets monitor brightness to maximum (and
actual_brightness to 100).

Ubuntu does not call the APM shutdown code after calling the ACPI
shutdown code. This means that computers for which ACPI (or parts of
ACPI) is not supported in the kernel will not shut down. The fix
shouldn't be terribly hard.

As far as other distros go, I have been using OpenSuse from version 10.0 all
the way to 10.3 now with whatever kernel they've had and I never had a
shutdown problem with Opensuse, whereas Ubuntu and Kubuntu never shut down.
Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to test the 8.04 Alphas on my "problem

Still now success. Suspend works now, but resume freezes the laptop as usual.
