Gerd,
after you have selected your file to restore, you will get the next window,
where you can select to restore to same or different location, and some options
to restore the directories path.

Am I missing something obvious?
I am doing some comparison testing of backupset restores against standard
restores.
I understood that in both cases restore would only be of active files and yet I
see with a standard
restore
ANE4955I (Session: 5106, Node: PORSD1) Total number of objects
It looks like the larger restore containes both active and inactive, try
adding -active to your restore line.

-inactive is an option(which seems to confirm that active is the default)

Sorry - didn't have my book with me - I recall always using inactive and
pick for the novell restores - we only have 5 novell servers, so novell
restores are not in a high demand for us.

Hi *SMers
We were restoring an exchange server to a point-in-time - both the server
itself and exchange. While we were restoring the server, we found that
there were no "winnt" directories for the date we wanted. Investigating
this, we have found that if the nt server is NOT running exchange,
Eric,
Did this require an additional serial port (card) to be added to the
node, or was it connected to the 9 pin on the rear of the node?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Recently the topic came up about managing device drivers under Windows.
An excellent reference that too many users don't know about is the

It addresses Magstar tape drives and libraries for a variety of platforms.

Hi Dave, are you saying that the WinNT directory was not restored?
As far as using a special dirmc, the WinNT directory should still be there
as long as it is still on the client.

hi mark
the defaults for the server are "keep 7 versions"; however, for exchange, we
keep several weeks of logs. The requirement was to restore -14days. (a bit
inconsistent, but all the other servers on the site use the same mc). We
were able to restore a recent version of the server (say
hi mark
surely if a _file_ was being updated within the directory, then the file
would be backed up but not the directory name itself??
we intend investigating the dsmsched.log, when we can find the time!

Anyone have any luck doing a bare metal restore of NT to different hardware. We
have done the restore and it boots, but it is trying to load a SCSI driver that
the physical device doesn't exist. I have tried reloading the driver so it
couln't find it but we still hang during the boot process.

If you restore \WINNT\SYSTEM32, you overwrite what the machine detected with
what the old machine had. A bad thing.
Prevention: exclude \WINNT\SYSTEM32 from backups. (Maybe exclude all of
\WINNNT ? Not sure.)
Solution to your
Hello, we were actually going to use that product because ADSM did not have
an agent for Oracle running on NetWare. Basically ADSM becomes another
backup device for Backup Exec. I had it running on ADSM 3.1.2.41 but it's
not a very good solution. You loose all of the advantages of using ADSM.
I am not sure if it was clear in my original note but
ANE4955I (Session: 6894, Node: PORSD1) Total objects restored: 1,381,024
was the figure from the backup set restore.
If anyone has seen this sort of discrepancy or has any thoughts that explain the
difference,
please let me know
John
Adsm will backup a directory if a file is created or deleted within that
directory. This pertains to NTFS partitions and not FAT partitions.
This is important for people wanting to do point in time restores with the
backup/archive gui. For a PIT restore using the GUI, ADSM builds the
directory
Which is why you should make sure you have verexists=nolimit and retextra
equal the number of days you want to be able to go back to.

The syntax shown below is wrong. It should be:
tsm: TSMcheckout libvolume stk9710 vollist=file:vol.log (and other options)
You may want to fully qualify the file name.
