Hi,
use this command to determine if your filespace is unicode enabled:
q fi nodename * f=d
Look if you can find the following line:
Is Filespace Unicode?:
If unicode is NO you have to rename your existing filespace and have to backup the
node again (new full backup).
Then it should be unicode

Hi everybody,
I'm asking this for a collegue therefore I'm a bit vague ...
Does anyone share a 3494 library between the open world (W2K or UNIX

Dsmserv.opt,
Thomas,
If you have only one TSM server, be it W2K or UNIX, sharing with the
mainframe, then you'll need to:
1. define that server as a host on the 3494 library controller
2. define the library on the TSM server as LIBT=349X SHARED=YES
3. define a 3590 device class
4. define a path to each drive

The number of volumes shouldn't make a difference. The main concern is
that the database is at least as large as the database you intend to
restore. As for the log volumes, just make sure that between the two

We do this.
Our current configuration is TSM on ZOS and TSM on AIX sharing the same

TSM ZOS uses 3590-B (10GB) drives/tapes attached via SCSI/ESCON

I am told the only 'client CPU' issues are on pricing of the TDP licenses.
That is what I had to gather to renew my TSM license just a week ago.

My interpretation is that any server running TSM client software or TSM
server software has to be licensed per CPU. The bonus here is that for those
of us with old tape libraries and a spare server can setup up a legitimately
licensed test TSM environment so long as the spare server is CPU
We have recently purchased licensing for both servers and clients and
pricing is per CPU for each and per cpu for TDP licenses as well. This is
for extended edition.

There is a break for desktop clients, and they are per client, not

This is correct TSM behavior.
Based on your description, it sounds like you are attempting to provide

Just to clarify regarding correct TSM behavior:
The RETEXTRA and VEREXISTS work together to define retention for the

We share between OS/390 and Windows TSM.
The systems share the services of the library manager, the robot arm, and

You must use both the client scheduler (scheduler listens for
