Hi Nancy,
Jurjen is right: just look at the kernel version to identify the linux
version involved. The standard TSM-Client plays nicely with the ESX host.
To back up the ESX-guests, you can choose according to your needs:
running ESX-guests on NAS, you can snap the guests (very fast and very neat
I'm wondering with a 3584 if there is specific issues I should be aware of
that someone can point out. Are there certain administrative functions you
perform on an ongoing basis? I'd feel a little more comfortable if I had
something like that going into this switchover. I just don't want to miss

Since this is a Windows Client, I would go into the the GUI BAClient and
then go to Edit>Preferences
Then under the Backup tab, uncheck the box Backup All Local File
Systems.
Then select only the file systems that you want to backup.
That should do the trick. We did just the opposite of you b

Google vmbkup.pl this will make copies of the guest while up so you can back
them up with the tsm client.

Hello,
I have a tape that I did a (audit volume xxx fix=yes) on.
It produced the results below. I had a similar problem with another
tape I did a Audit command but then the files keep showing up in
the server log as being skipped during the tape's reclamation from

You "might" be able to run the linux tsm client directly on the esx
server, to get guest os backups. However even if that did work, it
would be whole image backups (not file level), and you'd need to bring
down the virtual machine before running it's backup. I think the more
typical solution is t

Is there a TSM agent(for windows) to backup the guest os files, and if yes
where is it located on the ftp site?

Some suggestions:
- Check the client node definition on the TSM server to see if it is
associated with a client option set that has a DOMAIN statement in it that
might be adding the network shares.
- Check the schedule definition to see whether the OBJECTS or OPTIONS
settings specify any addition
Hi all.,
I have this DSM opt issue, I edited this one to backup only the drives
locally, and it still goes out and backs up the stuff on the mapped drives.
This is getting expensive to the customer, and I need to figure out why it
does not do as the file directs.
here is the DSM.opt file I a

This is a case where the server records need to be examined. Look in
the TSM server Activity Log for what's happening during that period,
and review the TSM accounting records for the recorded wait time
values. If need be, perform Query SEssion during the backups to see
what clients may be
Gil,
I think what the issue is, I have seen this b4 anyway, is that though the
OS can see the device, if it wasn't configured through the TSM server,
using the TSM version of the drivers, it is not going to play well with the
other kids. It could be that the other 2 were not installed through the
Hi all;
I am running the critical system with the database size 93.9% utilized.
Is it any other way we can decrease or do some housekeeping on this without
adding some more space on that

It would certainly help to see some more specifics. For example, the
dsmsched.log file for one of the clients in question that did not kick off
when expected, just to verify that, for sure, it is using prompted

I wish it were that simple. :) We actually do a full every night for
this set of databases.
Some questions the vendor asked...
"You have 4 threads starting at the same time, one for each dbs which is
fine. Could there be there another Tivoli process on the 8th day that
may be using 5 threads
Yes. It runs via administrative schedule every day, and I ran it independently
to make sure.

Did you run an "expire inventory" on the server?

We have a 3494 tape library shared between our TSM server and our
z/OS system. It contains a mixture of 3490, 3590, and 3592 tape
volumes. Our insurance company is pushing us to install a fire
suppression system inside the 3494. The planning manual for the

Kevin,
Shouldn't the inactive files that were backed up on 3/2 and 3/16 be expired?
Did you run an "expire inventory" on the server?

I am obviously having a brain cramp, because I can't figure this out.
I have files on a NetWare client (6.5, SP4) that seem to be retained past the
parameters of thier management classes. One example:
File: Testrehab.xls
Four versions of this file are stored by Tivoli:
Active April 1
Did you have a look at the
"Schedule Randomization Percentage"
in the output of "q stat" ?

I do not claim to have any knowledge of Informix
but the behaviour you describe suggests that
you use a backup schema of a full backup every
8 days and incrementals/differentials on the
other 7 days.
Just guessing...
