Hi Thomas,
You know that IBM has a BMR client for pSeries Linux and for x86/x64 Linux.
On the x86 side can you also run a dissimilar hardware restore.
Talk to IBM about CBMR for Linux then should you get more information.
Thanks
Christian

Hi Michael,
our Linux guru told me he was using alien (see:

to convert rpm to deb.

Hi all,
I wish to manage dbbackup media exclusively with drm.
My purpose is, in fact, to manage dbbackup media retention through drm.
When I look at set drmcopy, I can see that it is not possible to set a
value that tell TSM not to manage any of the copy stgpools.
When I look at move drmedia,
Michael,
You can download a TSM client for debian at
http://adsm.org/files/TSM/Clients/Linux/Debian/
Not supported of course but I'm using them without any issues on Ubuntu.
Regards,
Kurt

hello Michael,
you have to enter:
alien -i --scripts TIVsm-API.i386.rpm
alien -i --scripts TIVsm-BA.i386.rpm
you can ignore the error message postinstall ..

I haven't tried it, but you may accomplish your objective by
specifying an always-empty, placebo copy storage pool. Maybe someone
who
It work...
1. creation of a copy stg named void
2. set drmcopy void
3. q drmsta
Copy Storage Pools: VOID
4. mov drm
It work fine
5. del stg void
6. q drmsta
drmcopy is still configured with the inexistant copy stg
Copy Storage Pools: VOID
7. mov drm
It still work !
8. set drmcopy
I have used DRM commands just to manage DB backups in some cases, without
moving around copypool volumes. Just identify the volumes you wish to work
with and specify volume names with your move drm commands.
I use a small script to query the volhist t=dbb and identify the volume
names to manage
Thanks

Thank you very much Robben, this helps a great deal.
I only see a handful of the 100 or so tapes int he DR media list.
This tells me that the rest are not useful at this point!
thanks again,

I did the same thing. Our main TSM server was ADSM on MVS/zOS and we
migrated to AIX/Linux. I too had issues with the lack of tape management
features like offsite tape vault/slot management, especially since we have
5-servers sending tapes offsite into different areas of the same physical
vault.

The VTL is a Sepaton S2100-ES and yes it is disk only.
I don't see the benefit that a tape backed system would bring, how
does that really differ from a physical tape ATL with TSM providing
a DISKPOOL front end?
How come no one has commented on the TSM device type=file as an alternative to
VTL? I know it doesn't do de-dup. But doesn't it have a place? please comment
this has baffled me since the first VLT hit the market.
