I have TSM Server 5.5 running on a Windows 2003 Server box. I´ve instaleld

Ken,
If the N-series is providing CIFs shares, you should consider backing
up with a windows server mounting the shares and then using the
"-snapdiff" option in TSM V6 client. This greatly simplifies recovery
as it is nearly identical to regular client recoveries.
NDMP backups are full/diff
Ken,
There are some issues in the way current the TSM servers handles the
NDMP backups but in my opinion, they are making great progress with the
upcoming TSM server V6.1 release.
The "Error beginning NDMP backup - illegal arguements.Check that the

I don't have knowledge of Netapp NDMP, but I have EMC NDMP and I created
virtual file systems. I have a VFS name which points to a real file
system on the EMC.
I have one large partition and I created 8 virtual file system from it.
I backup each VFS one at a time.

Hi Wojciech. You need (obviously) to have hardware that can read the tapes.
Then install a TSM server at 5.2.0.0 on the same OS platform as the
original server. You will need to recreate the device configuration file.
Then run dsmserv display dbbackupvolume against each tape, capture/print

We have an IBM N-Series 6040 (a thinly veiled NetApp 3140) that amoung
other things contains several large volumes (2TB, 35 million files).
These volumes have qtrees defined for the larger top-level directories.
There are numerous other small top-level directories that are not in
qtrees.

If you have 5.5 server now, look in the admin ref, Server Utilities chapter,
for the command dsmserv display dbbackupvolume.
It will let you quickly mount the tapes and tell you whether one of them is
a DB backup.
That command was available in 5.3 & 5.4, don't know about 5.2.

Our dr plan is to restore pack backups taken from the z/os side of our
mainframe. Then restore the latest tsm db to the Z-linux instance.
Not sure when our next dr test is. We'll have to test this then. Just moved
tsm from solaris to Suse sles9.

Well on AIX, I restore my base AIX server from a Sysback tape, and then restore
my TSM DB. I was just wondering if folks who run their server on linux did
something similar. Apparently no one runs their server on linux or else they
don't DR.

from my understanding you can do the following:
Take a full TSM database backup from the main site on tape.
Take a backup to volhist.out
Take a backup to devconfig.out
Copy both volhist.out and devconfig.out to the same location in the TSM DR site.
issue the following command:
dsmserv restore db de

Just go to the itsm admin command line and try to query those volumes

I've got some old tapes, from non-existing TSM server.
The server was decommisioned 5 years ago.
