You can turn on Virtual IO from the web console which will place all
tapes placed in the IO door into the library. This worked great except
then we search=yes option did not work.
We use scripts to checkin and eject drmedia and turned off Virtual IO.
The scripts also automatically replies.
Can you talk to the drives using the IBMtape utilities from the OS? i.e.
You should be open the drive as a device and read the SN of the drive.

We switched from 8-3590E1A drives and the 3494 librar to 8-3592 drives
and a 3584 library and trimmed 6 hrs off backup times. We backup 1.3 tb
data per night with 90% going to disk pools and then off to tape. We
are also essentially getting the work done using four of the drives.
We have about 3tb on Celerra and backed up using CIFS shared out to two
windows servers and have each unix host backing up their own NFS. Slower
than I would like, but does give granularity to restore which was a
must. I also did not want to dedicate a tape drive.

We recently engaged IBM and other hardware vendors to look at upgrading
our environment. We or should I say I, manage 120tb of TSM data in
total storage with a database size of 70 gb. Recommendation was 1.5

We have been able to restore AD to the same hardware by restoring the
c:\* and then restoring all system objects with out rebooting. Once both
have been restored, then reboot. Restoring to different hardware is
another story.

We are starting to use VMware and run a DC
AIX 4.3.3 TSM 5.1.7.3 Reclaim fails after running for several days with
minimal tapes reclaimed. Scratch tapes available, not a problem. Any
ideas?

update client and retype password. Go to client and open a session, in
which you should get prompted for a password. Stop and restart
service/demon depending on OS.
