Hi,
I'm running TSM server 5.2.3 on an HP DL380 (Dual 3.2Ghz) with RedHat AS 3.0. What I'm finding is that no matter what load I put on the machine, TSM will not use more than 49.9% of the available CPU, even when there are idle cycles to be had...
Here's a typical top

I've got to start by saying I know nothing about Linux so take this with a
pinch of salt but...
The Generation 3 ( Generation 4?) DL380 has hyper-threading Intel
processors, so each physical processor appears as two virtual processors.
Your dual processor system should therefore appear as
Hi there,
yes, we've disabled HT in the BIOS. Other boxes see 4 CPUS.
Thanks

Hi
Greetings,
I am receiving complaints from clients that CPU utilization of TSM clients
( Winodws NT 4.0, Win 2 K,Win 98 95) is shooting up to 100% during the
time of scheduled backup. Due to this , end users are feeling the system is
hanging up and they are either stopping the Client service

How can i bring the CPU
utilization down to lower levels?
Check if compression is on or off.

Geoff,
I am experiencing the same problem and my settings for the nodes I
side. During backups you will notice
CPU utilization peak because the client is doing much more work to get that
data compressed before it's sent to the server. I have watched while backups
are running and seen some low CPU usage and some high, depending on the
number of CPU's, CPU speed, and memory
incremental starts up the CPUs are 0-5% idle.
Some of the hdisks are 100% busy and I/O wait is 80%.
I'm not the actual admin of the machine, just a TSM resource
who is getting posed the question and am not sure what things
to look at for high CPU utilization issues.
You're starting ONE process

Hello,
Has anyone dealt with high CPU utilization problems on an AIX SP node?
Were you able to do anything to reduce the CPU utilization?
This happens during incremental

This happens during incremental backups. Other less powerful (fewer
procesors) machines with less memory do not experience this issue.
Are there any commands
. If it is
below 98 percent or so when you are experiencing the cpu utilization issues, you
might want to bump your BUFPOOLSIZE paramter in your dsmserv.opt file. I would
suggest doubling your current value and watching your cache hit percentage for a
few days. Your cache hit percentage should be over

Good news! I have been running for a week with rewritten ADSM backup scripts
and my CPU utilization has not gone above 10% of our 7060-H50. Most of the
time it's under 5%. I rewrote my daily ADSM backup scripts to remove the
parameter "wait=yes". I had to break the scripts up to do o
