This may be a case where speeding up the Exchange backup isn't the issue. You may

Who would do that with there offsite incremental copies? Could get tape

Hi
I am getting the error as stated below while taking the exchange
backup through TSM scheduler. The exchange scheduler is running through
an exchange a/c and the manual backup is working fine with this a/c.
The Exchange 2K is running with TDP 5.2.1.0.
Please let me get your idea on this
Joe,
There is no way to change the number of retries for
Data Protection for Exchange. This is currently hardcoded
into the product. The intent is to add more intelligent
retry in the future. This is a known work item for the future.
Thanks,
Del

Hi All,
Does anybody know how to control number of retries that client attempts if TDP for
Exchange fails for any reason.
Every time that TDP fails for any reason it retries backup 4 more times. So it does 5
times in total.
If it failed once, there is a very little chance that it will succeed

Henry,
Make sure you have COMMTIMEOUT on the TSM Server set to a
high enough number to accomodate any Exchange activity
that may need to happen during backups. I would try setting
COMMTIMEOUT to 600 to see if that helps.
If that doesn't help... many times, "-50" errors mean there are

server SERVER04 failed, rc = 418.

Henry,
This is not enough information to be able to help you.
The RC=418 indicates a TSM API error.
What appears in the DP for Exchange log file?
What appears in the DSIERROR.LOG file?
Thanks,

Setting this option requires a restart of the Exchange Services. After

Did you try adjusting your buffersize. We have ours set at 1024 and see

Hello all,
I am trying to see if anyone has any quick suggestions on backing up
Exchange 2000. I am seeing some horrible performance as you can see
from the below stats. This server has never had speedy TDP backups,
BAclient backups normally are in the 10MB/sec range.

Pattie,
This is redirected output from the running program.
You would need to write a script to handle the pruning.

Running TDP 5.1.5, here is the command from the excfull.cmd.
start /B tdpexcc backup * full /tsmoptfile=dsm.opt /logfile=excsch.log /logprune=7 >>
excfull.log
If my logfile=excsch.log and I can prune that with the logprune=7, does anyone know a
way to prune the excfull.log???
Thanks,
pattie
