For TSM 5.4 raw disk volumes or partitions are not supported on
Linux. All TSM disk volumes must be created on a formatted filesystem.

Can you do the AIX equivalent of Raw Logical Volumes on a RedHat EL/AS 4
Linux server ?
If so, can someone give us some guidance on how to configure the RH
system.

Re: [ADSM-L] TSM Linux server and RAW volumes
Hi,
this is from 5.3.2 Readme
See the following sections for information on installing Tivoli Storage
Manager in a Linux environment. The following features are not
supported:
* Generic tape
* Raw logical volumes
IMHO nothing new in 5.4.x
For other people having this problem
Just talked to IBM support, raw volumes are not supported yet under
linux.(tsm 5.2.2) The support person told me he would ask the developer
when and how it will be supported.
When I hear some more I will keep you guys updated.

the lv, using a 15gb partition on a different scsi controller.
It all gives me the same result. (above)
Could it be that raw volumes are not supported under linux? Or am i
missing something.
Mark:
I wanted to use raw volumes for my diskpools since formatting 3 tb with
dsmfmt on a normal filesystem
I tried using raw logical volumes a while ago and had the same troubles. I
seem to remember finding a document which stated that raw disk access was
not supported on Linux.

I have an Oracle cluster running on raw volumes (Solairs box), how would I do

Does anyone know if TSM Version 5.1.1.6 supports backing up raw veritas
volumes?
For instance, if I put in an include statement that said include
/dev/vx/rdsk/datadg/b01d00s09. I want it to back up the actual disks and
not just the links.

I run my TSM servers on Solaris 8. I use raw volumes built with Solstice
DiskSuite (Solaris Volume Manager in Solaris 9). When I first brought TSM up
on Solaris I put my db, logs and disk pools on UFS with logging and the
performance was awful. Solaris 8 UFS is actually quite fast for most
Hiya,
I've been reading about using RAW volumes for database and diskpool volumes, my
impression is that when running AIX and using JFS the benefits are trivial. However
I've seen people talking about 200-300% performance increase when running TSM on
Solaris.
What I am wondering
I have used both on AIX, and really have never seen a difference either way.
I use LVM raw volumes for both, since I find them easier to deal with. TSM
mirrors the database/log volumes, and AIX mirrors the storage pool volumes.
TSM V5 can utilize AIO for JFS under with AIX

Keep in mind the following things about backupsets. A generate backupset
command copies all the 'Active' versions of the file systems specified. It
does not copy any of the 'Inactive' versions. It does
not copy any of archive data either.

Hi,
question for you about backupsets
I am running a backupset every month on a system that backs up both normal
filesystems and raw partitions (using the dsmc backup image command).
Problem is that when i do:

I can see a list of all my
