and kernels to offer out. My first choice would have been a recent SuSE
professional (not the $600 enterprise version) distribution instead of Redhat
7.2 with an antiquated kernel that will not run on their X-series h

I had the same problem and was very amazed that IBM, which I consider
as a BIG linux promotor, does not maintain the tivoli for linux on an
acceptable level.
We had to go back to the specified kernel to get the scsi utilities
working (IBMtape, tsmscsi).
After trying with 8.0, we finally we

Unfortunately, the only SUPPORTed linux kernels are the ones as listed in
the readme. Which means if you encounter any problems running a different
kernel - you'll be asked to go back to the supported kernels to see if
your problem still exists.
