Proxmox has a good feature set for a fraction of the cost. VMWare has some
extra niceties, but for 10x the money.
My current employer is using VMWare. The previous two had Proxmox. I like
them both just fine, but if I was writing the check I’d pick Proxmox every time.

The LA times has an article about CA landfills filling up with solar panels.
It is behind a paywall, so I guess I won’t read it. Sounds like hyperbole to
me. First, the all the solar panels in the state, by volume probably don’t
match a weeks’ worth of municipal solid waste by volume, so that

The type of waste? Copper, Selenium?
You can buy supplements of those at the drug store.
Arsenic? Very little in a panel.
And Arsenic has a hormetic effect. People are healthier if their drinking

Chuck,
Thanks Chuck. You played a big roll in this about 12 years ago. Gave me access to your guys. They showed me that Fiber was a feasible option for a small company.

I find it pretty hard to believe that a lot of solar panels that get
replaced just because they're "at the end of their life cycle". I'd bet
that there will be a decent market for used panels that can still do ~50%
of their output. If nothing else, somebody should start collecting them
all and fil
You probably don't get free money for using used panels, only new
panels. And there's probably a grant for 'Upgrading' to more efficient
panels.

Yes. If you could get a BLM lease for a large chunk of ground, you could plant
them and who cares if it takes twice the acrage, $500/hour/megawatt would be a
nice income stream. And there is some good math behind just laying them flat
on the ground, with a tiny bit of angle on the N/S axis so
Yeah, that's just what I was thinking. "recycling" old solar panels could
be a good business opportunity.

Does anyone else feel like this is being hyped to force a "solar panel
recycling mandate"... And people are taking their panels down after 25
year ( and a 10-20% decrease in output ) "lifetime"? More likely they
are being sold a new array that exceeds their old array because they are

I would have to think that the amount of waste in a solar panel is
1/1000 that in a dead cpu board..

One of the main reasons solar panels get trashed/removed from service is
damage. One good hail storm is a utility scale solar farm and you now have
5-10k panels to replace.

I could have sworn you told us you did some sort of crazy expensive run for
some farmer that could have been done with PTP600 for a fraction of the
cost like 10 years ago...paid for by the government...
