I have a three page document, of size 20260 bytes. When
I export it as a pdf file the size of the exported file is
299787 bytes!

I downloaded the official version of OpenOffice 2.4.1, compiled
for linux, packaged as .deb packages. I installed it on a debian
system running linux 2.6.18-6-486
