High-level questions:
1) Is there a good debugging guide? I'm guessing

- check kernel config
- check alsa build config
- check /etc/modules.conf
- check lsmod
- etc.
2) I just tried the Creative L

I'm looking for clues as to why Bristol would, on my AP2496/RME machine,
have very low sound output. I assumed it might be an alsamixer issue,

please note that

Hello all-
Yet another installment of my external MIDI
saga. As yet I've been unable to receive any
external MIDI events through my card's joystick
port (which I now believe is the MPU401).
So I'm recompiling everything.
One thing I've noticed: the emu10k1 drivers seem
