I'm trying to get alsa installed on my HP Kayak XU 800
under Redhat 8.0. I've installed alsa 0.9 rc7 on my
machine, and added the following to modules.conf:
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs46xx
# module options should go here
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-
Hasnt got someone any clue about this ?

Have you raised levels using alsamixer or amixer? By default, you will
have no sound until you unmute and raise Master and PCM.

I've sucessfully got my Soundblaster PCI 16 installed and running.
Despite some negative things I've read, the output sounds very good. And
the midi port works fine as well.
But, now I'm trying to get recording to work... Arrrggghhh
I've fiddled with the various mixer settings to no avail. The

Since i am maintaining a website on this laptop (asus l2400b) i would like to know how
the cs4299 relates to intel8x0, so that
I think this is the problem: "> Is your PC CDROM wired to the sound card?"
Note that that analog cable isn't neccesary in Windows XP as that uses the
IDE cable to play audio CD's. You can use alsaplayer or XMMS with an
appropriate plugin to get the same funtionality in Linux.
