The major thing you've missed is that i810_audio module is an OSS module.
To use alsa you must substitute i810_audio for snd-intel8x0 module in your
modules.conf and try again

This is my second post regarding this, so I figured a
new thread was in order.
I have a Gigabyte GA-7DPX-DW+ mobo (dual Athlon MP) w/
onboard intel8x0 sound. It worked fine w/ ALSA 0.9.0
and kernel 2.4.20 (no ll or preempt patches).
I just added a M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 card, and

I had this problem the other day ...
I had to do:
# chown /dev/snd/*
(thanks to bob ham on #lad for helping me with that.)
and then envy24control worked for me and I was able to play sounds.

All,
I have spent the better part of two days trying, without much success, to
get ALSA 0.9.5d to work on RedHat 9 with the 2.4.20-19 kernel. I have read
both the ALSA mini-HOW-TO and the main HOW-TO. I will list my questions
below.
1. I have three machines that have a SiS 7012 chipset.

lloyd,
I guess you're building for SMP. I had the same errors and Takashi sent
here some patches that solved all this.
See the diff-patches attached to this message (use 'patch -p1' while on
the alsa-driver source directory).
Ciao.

Hi again,
I finally solved the problem, see below.

Hi,
QAMix-0.0.4_pre03 is a QT based mixer for ALSA. The GUI is configurable
via XML. Default interfaces for standard AC 97 cards and Soundblaster Live
are provided. QAMix can be controlled via MIDI. Any number of MIDI events
can be bound to any mixer control.
It seems as if the code is now quite

Thanks for your response :) I'm glad that it helps you, really!
Actually, I just share the info I've got from my job, so it's not so a big deal :))
Enjoy it!
Good luck,
Mike.

Thank you Mike!
I had to find out that I made the acpi patch wrong, therefore at first these options
you gave made no difference. When I did the patching again and done a make oldconfig
and friends, both the sound card and pcmcia got IRQ 5, and now both are working.
You are a great man, I don\'
Hello Scott!
I think it should be like this:
dBu: 1mW / 600 Ohms <=> 0.775V (RMS) => X (dBu) = 20 log( U/0.775) => U (Volts RMS)=
0.775* 10 exp(dBU/20)
dBV: reference is 1 V => X (dBV) = 20 log( U/1) => U (Volts RMS)= 10 exp(dBV/20)
As a consequence, one can admit the following rule: 1 dBV =
I did get alsa working on my Redhat 9 system, already with version
0.9.4, but after playing sound for a longer while (I was listening to
MP3s using XMMS), things went wrong:
When using the XMMS esd output plugin, the sound gets garbled after a
few minutes. When using the alsa output plugin, the so
