Hi,
trying to circumvent the problem with the crispy AC97 sound with my VIA
onboard soundchip (and getting surround sound), I bought a cheap
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live (CT4760). But now it get's worse... :-|
I compiled the module for emu10k1 chip, loading the module works:

I just picked up a Compaq Presario 4402 (from 1996) with an ES1888 on the
motherboard. I have found no free driver that works with it so far.
However, my tests have been going really slowly. I've tried the OSS sb,
the ALSA es18xx, and the FreeBSD 5.1-release sbc.

Hi all,
Maybe someone here can help me,
I got a RH9 machine with alsa-0.9.4 and a RME Digi96/8 card.
Everythingis working fine with SPDIF, but I'm unable to get ADAT working.
When I do:
aplay -c 8 -f S24_LE -r 44100 /dev/random
It there is no error, it just seems 'playing', but there is no sou
Gary and Scott,
You guys are great !!! I now have kernel-sources, alsa 0.9.4 and best of all I've got sound.
Being an ultra-newbie I really appreciate your help. If it will help any other total newbies, here is what I did after reading Gary and Scott's e-mail.
1. Downloaded kernel-source-2.4.20

I "upgraded" to 0.9.5 and now I have nothing working at all. I seem
to remember that the snd-hammerfall-mem module had gone (and indeed it
does not exist now) so the configure says
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-rme9652
etc
but it claims to be unable to start:

I don;t think there really is much more information I can give, no logs or
other problems, etc. Just that one allowing problem..

Hello All,
I have a powerbook using the powermac snapper module with alsa 0.9.4.
To my knowledge there is no support for either the internal mic or
recording.
It seems that the snapper has been around for awhile. Will the
recorcding functions ever be supported? I'm curious, is

of the total 47 different controls there is a control labelled ac97 in
addition to master, pcm, bass, and treble none of which have any effect
on the playback of an mp3 or any other audio output. Wave is the only
control that I have found has any effect on the the volume of any
output. Surely there

Hi,
I'm having a some issues with the mixer settings for my audigy2 card.
I'm using the standard oem audigy2 card with snd-emu10k1 driver from the
alsa 0.9.5 release. The modules load and I get sound from my speakers,
however adjusting most of the mixer setting seems to have no effect.

Hi,
Are there perhaps two sound chips in your computer? CT4750 was a ES1371
for sure. I don't know of any Creative card that used a Crystal chip.
