Try
speaker-test -c 8 -D surround71
Try to set side volume too. One from side volume should control rear center
volume.

there are many different models for Audigy 2 most are indeed 7.1 or 5.1
but mine is 6.1. This speaker test only gives sound from 5 speakers (but
not from my center rear speaker). I also only have a 6.1 speaker set.
