I'm starting up several alsaplayers on different devices like this:
alsaplayer -d channel12 ...
alsaplayed -d channel34 ...
sometimes I can get it to work just fine, but other times I get corrupt
audio. I don't know if this is an alsaplayer problem or an alsa
problem. The channel12 always works
Does anybody on this list use Alsaplayer? It seems to work fine on the
command-line (i.e. no X), but I'm trying to figure out how to control
the volume and switch songs of an already running process from the
command-line on from Perl. I can't find any documentation and they only

As an update. The existing install of alsaplayer still works but I can't
compile it anymore. I haven't tried any other apps.
Also, Quake2 sound now works fine. I didn't have to mess with any files in
/proc either.

I installed 1.0.0_rc1 tonight and went to build alsaplayer. I get these
messages and the build fails. Any ideas what's broken here and how to fix it?
Thanks.

I downloaded the source and did the usual ./configure, make, make install. Now this happens:

Hi,
I have multiple CDROM drives on my Redhat machine and alsaplayer seems

How do I go about configuring alsaplayer, or else Redhat itself, to choose
the specific CDROM drive I want it to choose?

Ah, thanks very much Frank; that worked, even without the '-D default':

I've got a MIDI keyboard and an SB PCI64 that I really miss using
now I've ditched MS from my disk. I'd like to keep MS off my disk,
but after several *months* of frustrating and searching the web and
posting to NGs I still don't have it working. So here I am, with

Hi

I compiled Alsaplayer-0.99.55 but it only works in text / command line

I've been trying to use alsaplayer but haven't had much success.
First off, I can't get the gui interface to load a file, I click on it in
the gtk file selector but it doesn't try to play it. However, I can
specify the filename on the command line, in which case it loads the file

I have just installed alsa driver (on debian sid).
Modules are well loaded.
alsamixer works fine. I can change the volume of tracks, but
none sound application is working.
For instance, this is the output of alsaplayer :
