Hi Swen!
I used some time ago an old driver for the chip. There was a switch (DAC TO OUT)
which mixed all streams together and gave an output through SPDIF (but it didn't
work -> too loud sound, distorted). Now this future is anymore included. You
should ask Takashi about this ...
Now I have a qu

When does a application use the SPDIF output?
Two possibilities:
- via the normal pcm device (hw:0,0):
set up the correct parameters, 44100 or 48000 Hz, S16 LE 2 channels,
then spdif will be turned on. otherwise it's shut up.
Usually OSS's /dev/dsp corresponds to this

Hi Takashi Iwai.
This is a update of the last mail. After I had installed the driver (from CVS)
by hand (not with the script) it worked. The script forgot to make the module.
I don't know why.
The SPDIF works too :)
but i have a question: When does a application use the SPDIF output (I would

Oh, sorry, I perhaps didn't mention clearly that you needed cvs

Hi Takashi Iwai!
Now I have installed alsa 0.9.0beta10. The analog playback works but I have
still problems with the SPDIF playback:
bash-2.04# aplay -Dhw:0,2 test.wav
Playing WAVE 'test.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
aplay: pcm_write:935: write error: Eingabe-/Ausgabe
Hi Takashi Iwai!
Now I tried it with a new installed SUSE LINUX 7.3 system
with this options:
"SPDIF Output Switch" true
"SPDIF Out To DAC" true
"SPDIF DAC To Out" false
"SPDIF 5V" true
% aplay -d2 test.wav
I have still the same result. The shell hangs and I have to close it.
Here is the dump

Hi Takashi Iwai!
Now I tried it with the right command(% aplay -d2 test.wav) but it hangs and I
have to close the shell. During the hang my MD-recorder records because it
thinks there is a signal (the volume bar fo the MD-recorder says nothing so
the signal must be very silent). When I close t
