I have 17 ~50G tapes...
I also have approximately 50G to backup.
I want to keep a reasonable Monthly archive as far back as possible as
well as a Weekly archive in addition to the Daily dumps.
Being new to amanda, I would like some feedback on my plan (or
suggestions, tips, recommendations etc.
Right now, I am using fairly expensive tape media to perform a once-only
archive before deleting a lot of historical and unused data. After having
used 5 tapes up it occured to me that I might be able to fill tapes to
capacity with compression if I perform multiple amdumps with no tape in the

If it's going to be <50Gb after compression then you can run full
backups every day with dumpcycle=0. If it won't fit you could set
dumpcycle=2. Set your weekly backups to no-reuse until they're

Anyone setup a Spectra Logic Treefrog on Solaris before? I can't determine
where's the right device for the variable "chagerdev" in chg-scsi-solaris
changer file. Please help. I tried to run amcheck without changerdev
specified, and it returned with changer error.
