Hello again all,
Now that I have amanda running in a somewhat reliable manner, its time to
make her a part of the disaster revovery plan. I run about 8 tapes a week
and this config:
dumpcycle 1 week
runspercycle 5 days
tapecycle 10 tapes
So, I need to get my tapes offsite for 6 weeks at a time
Running amcheck -c conf I get:
WARNING: 10.1.0.3: selfcheck request timed out. Host down?
Pretty typical error, from what I've seen on the list.
Here is the debug output (/tmp/amanda/amandad.20020502142318.debug) from
amandad (less than typical):
got packet:
Amanda 2.4 REQ HANDLE 000

I would be willing to bet that you could use..them but since the config
specifies the tape size, you would only be using the limits of the

your tape size to reflect the new tapes. And remove the the 8GB tapes

We currently use 20 8 gig tapes for our backup in
amanda. We have obtained some 20 gig tapes and we
would like to add these to the backup schedule. Do we
need to replace the 8 gig tapes with the 20's or can
we intermix them?

Brook

is it possible, like with arkeia, to replace tape devices with a partition/directory
and tapes with files?
this would be particularly usefull, as it would allow me to run differentials all week
to files and then a weekly offsite to tape, and restores would be lightening-fast by
comparison.

Howdy -
I've been handed a bunch (11) of < 35G file systems that I
need to start backing up. I have two 15xDLT changers with two
drives in each at my disposal. The file systems contain a lot of
comressed data so I'm not using compression - just ufsdump.

Amanda's standard way of operating is to spread the full backups of all
your disklist entries thro

Title: RE: Hard drive as backup media?
I'm not quite clear what you have in mind, you're presumably not talking about having a cycle of hard drives (are you?) but just keeping a mirror on a different machine.
A couple of packages that might interest you...

Hi all
I've got a situation where Amanda is already set up and running fine on
my network, but I'd like to change my backup media from tapes to hard
drives.
Has anyone ever tried this?
Thanks,

I was reading through my amanda.conf and I saw this line:
#You need a separate infofile and
# logdir for each configuration, so create subdirectories for each conf
and
# put the files there. Specify the locations below.
Well, I don't have separate infofiles and logdirs for each config, and
