I have more information on this problem.
I see these messages in the 'amdump' file:
dumper: logfile.c@202: memory allocation failed (28 bytes requested)
dumper: debug.c@345: memory allocation failed (22 bytes requested)
The 'debug.c' message is repeated many times.

Is there a way to specify a file of patterns to include rather than to
exclude with the GNUTAR type? Here's the scenario:
In 2.4.3, check man amanda for include, much like exclude.

The AMANDA IRC channel (#amanda on irc.freenode.net) seems to be a
worthwhile idea, going by the level of visitation and participation.
Some more northern hemisphere people would be good, as many people tend
