If you look at amdump, you'll see that it's just a shell script that does,
basically, "planner | driver".

I dont know if this would meet your needs, but a suggestion would be to make
a mirror of the windows box using cygwin and rsync. rsync has some great
exclusion/inclusion features.
You could then backup the mirror.
We do that here, and it is nice because I only need to run to tape in dire
emerg

but don't do the actual dump? I have a couple of files systems with are
about 10 GB and the tape should
hold a native 20 gb and compressed 40gb but planner won't back it up
because it is too large.

amlabel gave an [input/output error] tapelist not found. Sorry cannot
give you the exact message because at this time the tape drive is
disconnected from the linux box. However, I have the log for when I
last ran amdump and it asks for the tapelist too. Here it is:

If a file has had its permissions or ownership changed that file should
also be a candidate for backing up so that restoration is accurate.

I'm using Amanda 2.5 on Solaris 8 and Amanda has a problem with the degraded
mode. Only one filesystem is dumped to the holding disk, all other dumps fail.
The capacity of the holding disk is about 30GB and amcheck reports no problems.
