Thanks to those who called to me out of the darkness. ;)
Apparently I was silently unsubscribed sometime in the past 8 days. I
resent a subscribe request and it succeeded, so I guess I'll be getting
list mail again.

No, you cannot use 'root' above. You must use an unpriviledged user
such as 'amanda' who is made
as you can see in your mail, amanda requires the non-rewinding
tapedevice. /dev/st0 is a REWINDING tape device
use /dev/nst0 instead, that's the non-rewinding tape device.
so, to check, use 'mt -f /dev/nst0 status'
also, be *sure* you have /dev/nst0 as tape device in your amanda config.

Yes, we have moved away from root user to "amanda" user. This was an
issue for earlier versions of amanda on earlier versions of IRIX (but
we used bin on Sun). Newer installations use amanda for both architectures.
Runspercyle - can't imagine why that isn't in the file, I don't think
