I'd like to backup 474gib of data, and hold this and increment for one
week. Would I just adjust the dumpcycle to 7 instead of default of 10.
I need enough holding space to properly stream to vtapes or to a jukebox
in the future.
--thanks for you time.
Yes that sounds about right, I thought rait required like devices to stripe to?

In config file you are referring to the .config file that is home to all the
switches like --with- ssh and etc?

You need to keep vtape as close to the size of your physical tapes as possable
- as far as I know...and going from data to holding to vtapes to physical tapes
will require two jobs. One for data to holding to vtapes then one for vtapes
to holding disk to archival media.

Thanks one and all for your input, I am planning on using a holding
disk, vtapes for storage and archiving to ati2 tapes. I realize that
the amverify would be rough on tape drives, but if I use d2d I should be
fine. And I'm aware that its done all on the clients but I need to be
able to ensure
Folks,
I've been tasked with guaranteeing that the backup vtapes or in the
future real tapes are good. So I found the command amverify that
seems to be the correct routine but I want to know does it completely
check the archive and the files contained within?
Am I in trouble or are these ok?

From my # su - amanda -c /usr/sbin/amverify DailySet1 command

Folks,
In amanda 2.5.x do we stil have to do the amrecover trick documented in the
'how to use amanda witht the file-driver - chapter13', pg 107 (13.4) when it
states load tape b3_14 not continue [?/Y/n/s/t]? Then on a 'second terminal
run: amtape woo slot 14. Amtape returns amtape: label
Has this gotten any better for pre and post dump programs e.gm 'database
stop/start?'. In that its currently documented as of 2.4.5 there is no direct
support to run a program before or after a backup on a client.
Its refered to as a gnutar-wrapper (./configure ...
Do I still have to use another tty to change tapes with amanda 2.5.x?

Does amanda still need a patched gnutar script to obtain gpg encrypted
backup's. Moreover does it still 'hamper amrestores?'
--ie do I need a second tty to tell amtape to change tapes between expand
function of amrestore?

I'm planning on building backup server that will be able to properly backup
something like 9 servers. Each server will be ranging from 150gb to 500gb
(only one or two will ever be that big) a 2tb holding disk and a 4tb vtape
system. I'd like to do archiving to a [1] TLS-4440; does anyone know
Folks,
How do you folks deal with Oracle and mySql backups?

Anyone know if 2.5.x supports amgtar - page 114 from the amanda guide? In that
insted of having to recompile just to get the ablity to start and stop sevices
is it now included as default with 2.5.x?

This is my first post here - I thought people should never use tape hw
compression because each vendor implements their own compression
protocols. Say you need to restore files from a different tape host and
if your not using the exact same hw vendor then you might have an
*issue* or two?
