Hi all
We're backing up ten hosts using Amanda;

I've increased etimeout from 1800 to 3600 but there's been no improvement.
I'm looking for any ideas to either resolve this problem or to gather more
information to find the cause.

ow. Can anyone suggest an alternative? Hopefully one that is

I tried setting tapecycle to 0 tapes and get this:
# su amanda -c "amcheck DailySet1"
"/etc/amanda/DailySet1/amanda.conf", line 18: tapecycle must be positive
amcheck: errors processing config file
"/etc/amanda/DailySet1/amanda.conf"

haven’t really gotten a good backup, how can I
start fresh? It won’t let me reuse the test tapes. How can I
wipe the tapes clean and make AMANDA think it’s the first day of
operation?

Sounds as though you don't have a valid shell set for that user. What does

I would try a couple of other things.
* Replace " " with "%20" so you have "/usr1/home/document/Ingenierie%20SYNLOG"
* Double quote the name
* Single quote the name (some shells treat the different quotes differently)

Thanks for the help,

So you've got this pool of tapes that amanda rotates through. Does amanda
keep track of the number of formats to the tapes and alert you to ones
that should be retired?
If amanda doesn't keep track of this what strategies are prevalent for
DDS3 DAT tapes?
Thanks,

then overwrite it if it is the right one. How do I set this up?
Amanda works so well that I really just feed tapes and do a amrecover once
