I'm not sure why it started working, but I think the problem had to do with
xinetd, not amanda at all. When emerge built amanda, it put a "from-only
localhost" in /etc/xinet.c/amanda. I changed that to the fqdn of th

I've used amanda for several years. Now when I run amcheck (or amdump) the
selfcheck request times out, but only on the server itself. It used to
work -- I did something that killed it, but I can't remember or figure out
what it was.
