Within the next week, I will create a an upload system on the web that
will allow those who already have MP3's or WAV recordings of vintage
QSOs to send the file directly to an archive so that we can start
getting all these in one place for playback.
I've developed a MySQL database system that wa
A friend of mine had some tapes of WA5FHP in DeQuincy, LA who was on 3950
kHz AM as late as the early 1980's. I wish a thousand times I had made tapes
of the AM diehards here in the southeast, like K4AGY,W4AGX,WA4PQH,W4ZWE and
others such as Don K4KYV in the late 1960's and early 1970's when I was
Oh, yeah. I was trying to tell the people in my condos not to
flush their toilets while the men were working on the sewer pipe.
But the translator program told them not to put on makeup at their
dressing table! And of course, that was the one sentence I forgot
to check.
In retrospect, it's funny
Sometimes those translators don't work out exactly as you would think.
Let's try a little experiment.
1. Open the following page:

2. Choose "English-Russian translation" and paste the following text into
the appropriate field:

Somewhere I think I still have a recording of Alton, W5FAP, as heard on 20
meters in Mississippi one Sunday afternoon in the early 70s.
If I can find it, I'll transfer it to mp3 and make it available to whomever
does such an archive.
It's too bad I didn't keep recordings I made of W9ZKN, W6QS,
I have had that problem with DC relays, but never with ac ones. The
magnetic field produced by the a.c. voltage should de-gauss the core, just
like a tape de-gausser demagnetises recording tape. A tape de-gausser is
nothing but a large coil with 60~ a.c. applied.
The worst relays I have enco
I second these sentiments. I'd LOVE to have a copy of any CD made of these
recordings! These are historical, and nostalgic. (Meanwhile I will
continue to mourn the loss of my own historic artifacts. [sniff..])

Great idea and John is the man to do the work! I don't have any
recordings, but will certainly spread the word. If you incur any
expenses in the search I would certainly be willing to help with that
too as I'm sure many would. This is a very worthy cause in my opinion.

Thanks for the offer Craig.
I think the best way to help right now is to start asking around, on
the air, off the air, nets, etc., for leads on who might have some old
recordings. Finding the meat for this project is going to be a
challenge in itself.

It would be really good to try to include some recordngs from
the 1940s and 1950s though I suspect they will be much
more difficult to obtain.
