I believe that SSB was in use even before 1920. The Bell System used SSB in
FDM Mux
equipment (C-carrier, etc.,) in the "10's" (1915 and later). This was
between 4.5 Khz
and 60Khz. As FDM technology improved the frequencies in use increased into
the megahertz
range. I have some modern FDM

I have a Trane XV95 gas furnace which spews trash out on HF. I successfully
mitigated that
noise.

Canadians gather there startinga at about 4:30 or 5PM daily.
Goes to about 6 PM. Occasionally gather again about 7 PM or so.
Varies.

A new academic book is being released shortly, "The World of Ham Radio,
1901-1950: A Social History"
I ordered this book last June, from Amazon. They say they will ship end of
September. Obviously I haven't read it yet.
It covers the era we all love, so I look forward to reading it.

Philips-head machine screws, and some plastic (or stainless) cup washers
(and some flat washers) at Home Depot.
That's what I've done in the past.
