I haven't purchased any of the "thick" records for quite awhile, but used to
get them for $5 or so. I don't think they are particulary rare, but many have
been ruined by playing on the wrong type of machine and scratching them up.
BTW Gary, Terry, K9FMX lives down the street from me.

I have one of the old Edison phonographs. The records are called "diamond
discs" and are much heavier and thicker than conventional 78 RPM records. The
pick-up has a diamond stylus and a "floating" mount. The diaphram of the
pickup is mounted flat in the same plane as the record instead of si

Hey Brian,
I wanted to just chime-in and tell you that I had the same sort of experience
with my "big" link coupled tuner. I have been concerned that the tap points
for the open wire line seemed very near the center of the coil and seemed to
result in much less L than what I expected would be
Interesting experience! I agree that you should re-contact AT&T and get to the
bottom of this thing. Escalate your complaint/questions to a manager. Sounds
like it could be potentially a concern to all hams in areas served by AT&T.
I have Verizon FiOS and it works beautifully. Of course,

I wouldn't be too concerned. We are seeing a rather long minimum period, but
that isn't necessarily unusual either. Worst casewe can enjoy enhanced
conditions on the lower frequencies.

Well, the CCR issue seems to be one that is becoming an increasingly
aggravating problem for hams around the country. Unfortunately, many antenna
restrictions are based on general prejudice and fear of TVI and other problems
associated with a perception that ham radio is a bad thing and the cau
Many hams built their own receivers and transmitters during that time frame.
Money was tight and parts came dear. Regen receivers were popular as were
simple one or two tube transmitters. Simple 6L6 transmitters were common, as

Does anybody really understand why there is all of this obsession with band
width? We recently had the phone band expanded, activity is noticeably down
and these would-be bandwidth cops are still ranting about bandwidth
conservation. Why don't they just do their own thing and leave us alone?
You might want to consider two limiting factors.
1. What is the current rating of the doorknob? It might work OK, but it may
not be rated for the needed current. It could break down or heat up.
2. The minimum capacitance would be affected as you stated, which would limit
the tuning
I can sure think of more important things to be concerned about Why is it
that so many people seem to want to tear down history and traditions? The term
"ham" may not have been originally established in a complimentary way or to
positively identify us, but it grew into a foundly used term
No disrespect or ill will intended, but I agree entirely with John's comments.
The cure is worse than the malady. This is an old dispute. The hosting and
oversight of this list is nonetheless very much appreciated.
