I am posting this for a ham friend who has a Gates BC-1G. He is in need
of an aluminum, not porcelain, tube socket. If you have a spare you'd
be willing to part with, or know where we might be able to locate one,
please contact me off-list. Thanks a million!

As a broadcast engineer I have seen (or heard) transformers rattle as
you've described. My suggestion would be to let it be, especially if it
stops after a while. It sounds to me like it rattles when it's cold and
stops after it warms up. Does the noise gradually subside or just quit
Forgot to mention, if you do set the transformer on rubber feet be sure
to electrically ground the frame to the chassis to maintain the
integrity of the safety ground just in case of a winding fault.

Just one small problem...they're ALL woofers. Keep searching though,
Parts Express does have full-range replacement speakers. You can also
check MCM Electronics. You'll likely want a full-range to replace your
communications receiver speaker as most woofer's frequency range is

In all likelihood this is probably a rehash of the Ford-Chevy-Dodge
discussion; but, I do prefer the Heil PR-30/40 over the Electro-Voice

don't want to leave you out.) While the EV mics are quite good they

Funny, as I was typing my other mic comments I was thinking that a good
condition, properly adjust D-104 would be the first thing I'd try on
just about any hi-Z input BA rig, especially a Collins.

Earlier, in my enthusiasm for Heil mics I failed to mention (except at
