I have also seen some "tuned skirts" that are tuned to another stations
frequency to isolate the tower to prevent mixing and causing intermod.
Sure wish the 3 principal stations in my fair city would tune their skirts !!

7190 AM low power not a bad idea here if the broadcaster there really moves.

Barrie: When I was in France, they used to listen for the L.O. Radiation
frequency (local bcstn freq- I.F.=L.O.). It is almost always much stronger
than any I.F. radiation. 262 KHz IF was quite common.

Good find Geoff !! Looks very much like the circuit I got from Frank Jones
(as I recall). I used it in the late 50's or early 60's I think. For a poor
GI, the parts list fit the bill. Wont sound like 2x810's but good enuff on
a good night.

I may have a copy somewhere. Frank Jones gets credit from me as the "inventor"
of the Golden Gate Modulator. I used the circuit in about 1960 to modulate a
ARC-5 transmitter. Worked great but was a little short on audio. Talk loud.

Looks like a nice project to me except, I would be reluctant to use octal
sockets and old tube bases, unless you can find some old weak tubes to use
for the coil forms. I would hate to kill some tubes just to get the bases.

y remember operating 5-10 Watts on 160, 75 and 10 meters with a
mass of heterodynes everywhere that I used to call QRM but now I

If your supply lines are long, it is best to put a 1 uF cap and a .01 uF cap
across the electret supply input and ground.
They do love to hum so shield well.

Very interesting to me Joe !! I tore many of those caps apart as a

for a buffer between oscillator and mixer. Again this is just speculation but
I would expect this low cost receiver to shift a bit. My Drake 2C does the
same thing but only when I turn up or down the volume! Not the same circuit

If the converter was just for 75 Meters AM, wouldnt be that tuff to
build a converter with 12 VDC single tube with self excited L.O.
Probably as stable and sensitive as needed to equal the distance
capability of the transmitter. I could probably supply a schematic ??

microphone. Also same applies to the HR-2600 and HR-2510. Use low Z
dynamics 500-600 Ohms. D-104 does not work well.

All: I used to work on the ole 96D in 1957 at Geiger Field, WN.
We ran them on RTTY key down at 1500 Watts (cant recall if thats

Not familiar with the FT-101 but if it has two ranges on 10 meters now,
subtract the difference between the crystal frequencies and you will
likely have the coverage in KHz ?
