Sort of like when I asked for a 555 IC and was told they were obsolete
and no longer manufactured, or that resistors were on their last leg and
they weren't going to make them any more.

catalog that few stores have but if you go to their web site you
will find many parts for sale. The old stuff no longer manufacture
