Hi,
Compass 1 survived its close conjuction
with Sich 1.
Compass 1 CW beacon was copied at AOS
right on time.
It was interesting to watch the encounter via
tracking program. Closing velocities of 15,000 meters/second
or 34,000 MPH.

Armondo,
Heard it here as well. At those closing speeds, it would not have been a
fender bender.

Hi Mike,
14:32 utc on Jan 22, 2010 we copied the beacon from Sister Lakes Elementary
school in Southwest Michigan (EN62). We had a maximum elevation of 10.5°.
My third grade students were excited to listen today to see if Compass-1
survived. The boys and girls let out a cheer when we h
Nice that they didn't collide :-)
But it would have been more spectacular with a collision ;-)
Thanks for the reports to all listeners.

Enzo,
I'm fairly certain (but not 100% sure) the transmit modification you
made works for ANY band selected at the MAIN (transmit) band :)
Just put 1.2GHz in the MAIN band, and 70 cm in the SUB band, and you
should be ready to go (I think).
The transmitter modification is at or near the varactor,
Good thing, I have a fondness for that bird.

All,
As already indicated by Matt N8MS, signals from COMPASS-1 were present
during the 22-JAN-2010 1431z pass over Eastern USA. I decoded the following
packets from audio recorded during the pass earlier this morning:

Your switching box is the KLM model CS2 suitable for 70 cm crossed yagi model
435-18CX or 435-40CX and it is enclosed into a completely sealed aluminum box
so that a weep hole in the bottom is recommended to prevent umidity
condensation inside of it.

Hello Mineo Wakita,
This evening 22-01-2010 22:56 UTC FO-29 was again loud and clear in JO21
AOS: 22:57 UTC
LOS: 23:05 UTC
If made a recording from the pass: 2 min beacon and one CQ on the

Hey everyone,
At 0204 UTC on 23 January, KL7XJ and I had a quick contact on HO-68 in FM.
At the time, the satellite was below 4.5 degrees and descending for me. I'm
