Nothing heard during the 0145z pass (#65.199). Did it not switch?

I like my Elk yagi also, as like mentioned, breaks down for transportation

nicely. Attached photos are of my Elk yagi carry enclosure. Made from ABS
plumbing materials. I store it in my truck toolbox, along with my HF coils in
another ABS tube so they wont be damaged.

Beginning with the $1250 mark, I have picked a donor from the first $250

of an AMSAT clock, hat or golf shirt. Hopefully, there will be more winners
in the near future.

I'll add my two cents.
I've used the Elk exclusively for the last few months operating
"portable" in my backyard (and while camping, etc). The Elk sits on a
photoraphic tripod, and I use a little netbook computer to display the
satellite plot and aim the Elk accordingly. I absolutely love the

Hi John, WA4WDL
On the 2.4 GHz from AO-51 the transmitting polarization is
Linear so that in theory for receiving 2.4 GHz RHCP or LHCP
on the ground station don't make difference.
AO-51 Mode and Antenna Polarization:
T: Linear
V: Linear
U: TX A (usually digital)LHCP
TX B (usually analog) RHC
John, here is an alternative often overlooked. Works pretty good for me on a
mast.

Last Sunday I tried to receive the 2.4GHz downlink with a linear
polarized wifi patch and signals seem to be linear polarized. I
Hi John,
Both the S-band and L-band antennas are linear.

John,
It is linear. You are right that the information exists, but is sometimes
not readily available. A good place to look is the Weekly Satellite Report
which AMSAT distributes. For many, but not all satellites, that information
is just below the frequency information. For AO-51 we find:

Does anyone know the polarization of the 2.4 GHz transmissions from AO-51.
Are they circular? If so which polarity, RHCP or LHCP? Are they linear?
If so is there a preferred receiving polarization? I have examined the
AMSAT web site and many references on the Internet, but cannot seem to find

I will be portable /4 for the last half of this week...
Below is the list of passes that I anticipate working on Thursday, December 23,
2010. At this point, I will be working them from EM67, BUT may try to get up
to EM68 for the last two.

were leaving the parking lot where my truck was all rigged up and they said,
"Whatcha doing...tracking a bird?" I replied, "Well, sort of..."

This is no new signal. It's TECHSAT 1k2 PSK emergency beacon. See here:

Unfortunately go-32 is end of mission! Mike DK3WN & I have been tracking this
for a while now and it's solar panels cannot produce enough juice to keep the
on board computer going hence why it enters emergency mode quite often :(
Shame as Bob did a good thing with Aprsing it!

These days GO-32 goes into a strange "emergency mode" where it
transmits something at 9600 (hard to decode)when in this mode, it
makes constant noise...not just your normal 9600 baud "hh"
sounds, either. The emergency mode sounds more like noise with
distinct "clicks" in it at reg
