[amsat-bb] Galileo satellite

2014-03-19 Thread Richard Ferryman
I have been wondering whether occasional bursts of noise/data in the 23cm band are emanating from Galileo satellites as they seem to come from an antenna elevation above 20 degrees. To help narrow things down I want to set up Nova with the Galileo satellites to see if there is any correlation

[amsat-bb] Funcube 1 and SatPC32 setup

2013-11-15 Thread Richard Ferryman
Can someone remind me of what I need to do to get Funcube 1 on to SatPC32. Obviously there is no keps for this bird on the normal downloads yet. I have the temporary 2-line keps from Amsat UK and frequencies. Doppler.SQF should be easy but where do I put the keps? V12.8c has a separate list

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 SuM and ServerSDX language priblem

2013-10-28 Thread Richard Ferryman
I recently updated SatPC32 from 12.8b to 12.8c. I backed up my old data, removed SatPC32 and installed the newer version then restored my backup data. Everything is working and SatPC32 itself is using English language. However any error with comms (ServerSDX) returns an error message in German

[amsat-bb] gpredict and ft-817 cat control

2013-03-25 Thread Richard Ferryman
Does anyone know a way around the problem that gpredict can only control the FT-817 downlink frequency. I suspect there is a limitation in the hamlib control for this rig. The gpredict manual says 'the TX frequency can not be adjusted via the CAT interface (e.g. Yaesu FT-817)' but SatPC32 on

[amsat-bb] Pendulum type elevation measurement

2013-02-24 Thread Richard Ferryman
For some time I have wanted a more accurate antenna elevation measurement system. Shaft encoders are beyond my budget. It seems sensible to use a pendulum operated system. Digging through my 'junk' box I find I have a new Spectrol precision potentiometer still sealed in it's package. This

[amsat-bb] Allocations in L-band

2012-11-19 Thread Richard Ferryman
Just curious - Can someone enlighten me as to why there is no allocation for satellite downlinks in L-band (at least in the bandplans I have seen). There are uplinks around 1267 to 1269 MHz. Is it due to possibility of interference with commercial/military/aeronautical systems? Dick G4BBH .

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 sets FT-817 doppler reversed

2012-10-21 Thread Richard Ferryman
I am getting a problem with SatPC32 V. 12.8b and CAT control FT-817ND. The doppler correction is perfect with two separate FT-817s, one for TX and one for RX. Recently I have been having problems when using one FT-817 simplex for ISS and similar sats. SatPC32 is calculating correct downlink

[amsat-bb] ARISSat daylightpower recovery time

2011-09-24 Thread Richard Ferryman
Although I have severely limited satellite visibility I have been copying telemetry from ARISSat1 for some weeks. I live in a valley surrounded by chalk hills and cliffs over 100 metres higher than me so my visible horizon is +12 degrees to +18 degrees at best. Also my 3+3 element short

[amsat-bb] ARISSat clock and TLM records

2011-08-17 Thread Richard Ferryman
Now that the ARISSat clock seems to be resetting on a regular basis I am wondering how this will affect the TLM and Kursk data which I am capturing and uploading. It seems to me that the only way of collating the data is by the time of upload to telemetry.arissattlm.org Dick G4BBH

[amsat-bb] ARISSat1/RADIOSCAF-B doppler in SatPC32 problem

2011-08-06 Thread Richard Ferryman
I set up an entry in Doppler.sqf, originally as ISS and now as RADIOSCAF-B for the ARISSat1 CW and telemetry frequencies. SSB receive only so TX set to 0 MHz, step 20Hz. Unfortunately the doppler correction is not following the received frequency correctly. The rate of change is wrong so I

[amsat-bb] Interference from repeaters

2011-05-23 Thread Richard Ferryman
I have for some time wondered what was causing a considerable amount or QRM (S9+60dB) to the ISS downlink on 145.800. It took a while to identify as there is no CW ident etc. but I have now discovered this is a new D-Star repeater on our repeater channel RV63 which is 145.7875 MHz, only a

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Cat doppler problem

2011-01-23 Thread Richard Ferryman
I find SatPC32 is failing to read doppler information for some satellites although the doppler.sqf entry seems correct. The CAT window show no CAT data and the 'Data Line' at the bottom shows the last line of doppler.sqf. Any ideas? Thanks de Dick G4BBH

[amsat-bb] High resolution serial antenna tracking protocol?

2010-12-27 Thread Richard Ferryman
I have been working on an antenna tracking system using a very heavy duty CCTV pan and tilt head which uses large stepper motors. I have built a new control system that accepts Yaesu serial data commands from SatPC32 and drives the stepper motors to the correct position. The Yaesu protocol

[amsat-bb] Re: High resolution serial antenna tracking

2010-12-27 Thread Richard Ferryman
Thank you Erich and Paul. I will program another chip to accept the EasyComm protocol and test it out. I probably won't require this accuracy unless we get a bird up with X-band or above. Thanks es 73 de Richard (Dick) G4BBH ___ Sent via

[amsat-bb] Two configurations of SatPC32 ?

2010-12-19 Thread Richard Ferryman
I use SatPC32 configured for two FT-817 transceivers for cross band duplex working. One rig is on the 2m aerial and the other on the 70cm aerial with a transfer switch for V/U or U/V. I have to switch the configuration to one transceiver and reboot for in-band simplex such as packet on ISS.
