This evening we upped the power on the 435.300 downlink to about 1 watt, and
temporarily suspended the 435.150 telemetry downlink. This is about a 5db
increase on 435.300, so it should be very noticeable.

Tonight I turned on the SQRX receiver and the 1268.700 BBS uplink, and
lowered the power on the 435.300 transmitter to compensate for the extra
power the receiver uses. Currently 435.150 is at 400mw, and 435.300 is at
700mw. Together the transmitters are drawing 1.06 amps continuously.

AO-51 has now reentered a period of eclipses that will reach almost 20
minutes by July. Since we've been in an extended period of continuous
illumination and very warm spacecraft temperatures, the next few weeks
will be spent determining what the batteries capacities are now.
Currently we are r
I would like to say "Thank You" to all who manage AO-51 and all of the

AO-51 is off the air while the software reload is in progress. We hope to have
it operational by the first of the week.

Hi All,
This is a quick note to let you know that eclipses are back for AO-51,
and the length is increasing every day. Eclipses are now ;asting
about 1-2 mins per pass, and it goes up pretty fast, gaining a minute
every day or two. They will become rather long in the coming
weeks/months (as long
Hi All,
For now, it looks like the PL tone management (and changes to other settings)
has helped to keep AO-51 running and supporting normal operations. We are now
running around 475 mW of power out on 435.300 MHz.
Over the last few days, some of you on the east coast of the U.S. have probably
Hi all,
AO-51 is now running 435.300 at high power, currently defined as 2.05 Watts (as
of 2305utc 2March10). The digital transmitter (435.150) has been turned OFF.
Enjoy the big signal!

Hello All,
According to projections, the next 100% illumination period for AO-51 has
begun. Hopefully for the next week or two we can run both transmitters ON at
reasonable power. The PL tone isn't needed (and hasn't been for the last few
weeks).

Hi All,
This afternoon the power management function of AO-51 was turned ON, in
anticipation of eclipses in just a few days. You might see the transmitter
power levels go UP and DOWN a bit as the battery voltage changes. We'll make
some adjustments and tweaks to keep it from going UP and DOWN
Hi All,
This evening we shut down the digital transmitter TXA (435.150). This is due
to less sun (we are on the edge of eclipse). I suspect we'll be keeping TXA
off for the most part, except to collect telemetry.
We'll do our best to keep 435.300 running as much as possible.

Hello All,
Well, so much for the theoretical :) AO-51 isn't quite out of eclipses yet.
Therefore, continuos operation of the 435.150 digital transmitter will be
postponed a few more days until we get some baseline telemetry data and figure
out how much power is actually available.
You can e
Hello Franciso,
Thank you for your question about the AO-51 PBBS uplink. At this
time, there is no uplink available. The reason for this is power
budget. AO-51 uses a wide-band receiver, called the SQRX, which we
set to 1.2GHz for the PBBS (and for running L-band uplinks during

I had intended to do a more complete update later, but here's the quick version.

back in 100% sun (until the end of December.) That mea
