Seems to me that every program that I have tried I had to
fine tune it just a bit. But once that sweet spot was found
never had to touch it again.

Hello John,
I totaly agree with you. I work with full doppler control (rx and tx)
from the moment that I started on the birds.
That way I can concentrate more on seeking new stations and logging them.

I have had consistently good success with the Doppler correction in HRD. I
use it to guide either two FT-817NDs, or one 817 and a FT-857D. However, I
have encountered issues with what I believe to be the load on the Atom
processor in the Acer netbook I use.
Even though Simon has noted
