I'm probably completely wrong, but this looks like an XML/XHTML issue to me.
' ' (no quotes) is the (X)HTML equivalent of a non-breaking space, but
the '&' (no quotes) ampersand character can also be used in Javascript or CSS
declarations for example and this can cause problems with an XML
P.S. I mean text/html not text/xml. Lol!

Safari huh? That explains it. Safari on a Mac or on Windows? The Windows
version is still in beta and buggy as hell. Even the Mac version has
anomalies in my experience.
Also I note the standard Analog output is XHTML 1.0 Strict. The example I
have here doesn't validate anyway

You are correct that Analog output validates correctly using the W3C
validator, which I think must be the mutt's nuts where validation is
concerned. Curiously using Adobe's validator in Dreamweaver C
