WE use Odyssey, Ariel 3.4 and e-mail, we even fax and mail. Whatever. We will
Ariel until either there are so few that want it or until it dies or becomes
incompatible with ILLIAD. We do have a dedicated computer for it.

The reason is simple most campus e-mail systems restrict the size of
attachments, and in some cases strip out the attachment from e-mails
sent from outside of the network. PDF files can become very large very
quickly depending on the number of pages and if color scans are sent.

Odyssey can send and receive tifs and pdfs, and can send and receive
files that are too large to import into Ariel. Articles are stored on
our ILLiad server for whatever length of time we set up. Our library IT
guy doesn't want to ever hear the word Ariel again, or deal with Infotrieve.

Most vendors license agreements do not allow email as a delivery
methods. They do not mind Ariel and Odyssey even though the end result
can be the same. With Ariel and Odyssey the vendors feel confident
