We are about to patch our ITSM Suite.

ARS 7.6.04 patch 5.
We are currently on ITSM 7.6.04 Patch 1. We have just been informed that
we need to patch this in the next few days bringing it up to the most
recent ITSM Patch level (7.6.04 patch 4 I believe).

I think the ITSM patches are not a big deal - it won't majorly change the
way your application behaves as a result of the application patch. It's the
core AR System patches that needs more caution.
I have not heard of any DO's or DON'Ts for ITSM patches for the release of
the ITSM application y
Dee, What version are you running? If it is AR System 8.1.x, read on.

It probably means it's not loading a password and the
NullPointerException is from the String constructor. It's poor coding,
ie.
char[] c= retrievePasswordAsCharArray();
// Forget to check if c is null
String password= new String(c);

that was the first thing I checked, if the upgrade deleted that entry. But the
form reflected the password.
I have applied Knowledge Article ID: KA391722,
But ofcourse that lead to, log4j:ERROR No output stream or file set for the
appender named [null].
So i'm waiting BMC

Ok, the top of the stack is happening in decryptPassword method, and it's
giving a null pointer exception. This tells me that in your LDAP config
form, you haven't specified a password for the user that you are using to
do the integration, can you confirm?

Both of these are from the Distributed Server ("ARDS" in the error code) .
First thing I would check is your licensing to make sure you have the AR
Distributed Server listed.
