I have everything set to Australian date format which is dd/mm/ but
to set the date field it has to be done in US format. Mm/dd/. Make
sure you do that and it will work. You can't assign it directly either.

I actually use them a lot. I even like
them more than the old date/time fields for many uses. There are some things that
I have learnt the hard way about them though and they need to be addressed in
future versions of the AR system.
