We recently upgraded from AR 5.1.2 to 6.03 Patch 18 to Oracle9i. The problem we are experiencing is that we seem to be getting ARERR 92 when trying to modify certain records. It looks like the records in question all contain some strange characters in them

We may
have found our answer. I'll update after the fix is applied to be
certain.
Apparently, there's a documented issue with the 9i Oracle libraries on
HPUX (from the 6.3 release notes page 37) that our DBA/SA failed to read.
=(
We
have 9.2.1

Just as a matter of interest, as I said in
my answer to your mail, we are experiencing the same thing, but we are running
on Windows Adv Server 2000 and SQL 2000. I am going to have a look through the
release notes and see if I can see anything

The clients see RPC errors, then eventually malloc and the system has to be
restarted. From Remedy's recommendations, we increased our descriptors to the

What is the values of MAXSIZ and MAXDSIZ for the kernel. It looks like the problem I had on another job where the arserverd process is running out of memory and crashing.

What is the size of the arserverd process?
Also, can you talk your system administrator (I assume you are not this person) to set the MAXSIZ and MAXDSIZ to the same value? This will take a system reboot. What is the size of physical memory? (I

We had the issue similar to this where
server crashed every 2 hours because of arserverd process growing more than 2GB
and file descriptors crossing 1024. We contacted remedy support about this issue

We had sporadic
RPC errors from Mid Tier a while back (Windows 2003 in a DMZ). Looking at the
firewall logs showed it was attempting to connect to AR Server on port 111
(portmapper) instead of the specific port we had it configured to use. Remedy
suggested adding the ARTCPPORT
