Sorry for the confusion, I meant that for accepting *wholesale *traffic
from *other carriers* they almost exclusive use G729.
For accepting traffic from *retail *clients, I guess this depends on the
carrier. G711 is indeed a popular option in this case.

receive G729 calls:

Since most commercial VoIP carriers use G729 almost exclusively, in most
cases there is no need for transcoding, (a reseller/carrier/whatever
usually receives traffic in G729).

that one can use in order to secure business.
Simple prepay/postpay nowadays is too dangerous, not only with small &
unknown operators but even with large & well known carriers. They too
will dispute just about anything...
