I just noticed there is some sort of new spandsp library.

Is there anyone with more details?

Only spandsp fully supports T.38 in Asterisk 10. The Digium module
cannot work in gateway mode.

Does IAXmodem allows you to receive faxes with any extensions
(auto-detecting incoming faxes).
You just let Asterisk do the fax detection for you, and when it hears CNG,
send it to the fax extension, and your fax extension would just Dial() one

lee,Thanks for the feedback.in most diagrams explaining t38, it shows, the sending fax machine connecting to a pots before connecting to a gateway, then the internet. but if i've read and understood correctly, the sending end can use an ATA with t38 support instead of a pots. in that case,
linksys spa3102 or 2100 are known to work.
Grandstream also should do it with recent firmware.
Don't be fooled by what is written on the box, lot of ata's out there
claim t.38. (while the firmware doesnt contain anything related to t.38)

So, to answer your questions...
Why does using G.711 not require T.38? Because from the viewpoint that
the question was given, G.711 and T.38 are competing approaches. T.38
was designed to replace G.711. You can packetize G.711

I have not found any solution to the problem I am talking about in
the archives Steve. I have reinstalled and downgraded from pre26 to
pre21 of SpanDSP 0.0.2 and still to no avail. I have followed all
the instructions and ways of fixing this problem and have found none
to be a solution.

Well I got it resolved. Thanks steve for telling me. I looked all
around the filesystem and found some files I did not delete from
spandsp0.0.3. I saw that solution before and tried it and it didn't
seem to work and I wondered why but now i know. Thank you.

I am running Asterisk 1.2.7 and SpanDSP0.0.2 with Kernel version
2.6.17-1.2141_FC4. I am getting an error after compiling the SpanDSP
and putting the .c files in the correct place and then patching the
make file. All goes well but then when asterisk is opened, I get this
